General Contractor Guide for Security on Site

Do it Yourself Tips for Security on Site

Following are a few check points.:-

All access areas are secure and made safe, this will involve making sure that people can get on and off your property safely.

No materials are left piled up, a pile topples easily, especially if a child climbs on it.

No ladders are left against walls, this invites a child to climb up and may even invite a burglar. You are also responsible if the ladder is worn and the child or other person falls from it.

The area being worked is clearly marked, a sign with a picture is always a good idea just in case you have a visitor who cannot read, this is obviously only needed if the public has open access to the area being worked on i.e. a side extension.

Any materials are not left in reach of children, children will play games with any type of material and the type of material used on buildings sites etc. are not the safest type of toys.

Exits are not blocked, people should be able to leave the premises easily and quickly at all times not just in an emergency.

The property is securely locked when left unattended.

Lights should be on skips when left on the roadway.

Any materials that can be poisonous / hazardous to health should be stored in locked containers.

Check that your builder has the relevant insurance, this is called Public Liability insurance, this will cover any accidents that can occur on the building site, such as spilt paint, damage to property and injury to persons.
