Home Improvement Advice for Bathrooms

Layout, Storage & Access Do it Yourself Tips for Bathrooms

Consider who will be using the bathroom, elderly people may need a seat in the shower if they are unsteady and children may need to be able to get in and out of the bath safely.

Make sure that your bathroom is laid out correctly and that each fitting is accessible and can be used easily without knocking into other fittings.

Try to maximise your space and personalise your bathroom to match your needs.

Storage

Remember you need room to store towels, toiletries and cleaning agents.

Consider boxing in the sink with a vanity cupboard that will provide storage space or having a cupboard next to the toilet also for storage space. Use a radiator that towels can be kept on and dried.

Access to Pipe Work

You should have removable ductwork (if you have it) to allow easy access to the pipes, this will save damaging existing surfaces.

You should be able to have access to all waste pipes and lengths of pipe to allow leaks and blockages to be dealt with quickly and easily. Also all stop cocks should be labelled explaining their function.
