Environmental Agency Do it Yourself Tips for Disaster Recovery

The Environmental Protection Agency urges people in areas where warnings are in force to prepare for flooding, heed the flood warnings and take extreme care in flooded areas - flood water can be dangerous and may be contaminated.

Sandbags and Flood Protection Products Advice for the Public

As a result of the serious flooding situation in many parts of England and Wales, there is a huge demand for flood protection products like sandbags and flood barriers.

Local authorities co-ordinate the emergency response during a serious flooding incident. People seeking sandbags in an emergency should contact their local authority to check what local arrangements are in place to distribute sandbags to the public.

Unfortunately the Environment Agency cannot normally supply sandbags directly to the public as our stocks are used to reinforce river and coastal defences.

If your local authority is unable to help, there are a number of commercial suppliers who sell sandbags and other products directly to the public.

Please look at the page How to Use Sandbags if you need any further advice.

The Environment Agency have a page called Flood Protection Products which lists a certain amount of companies where you can find useful products or view helpful information.
