Home Improvement Advice for Handicapped Access

External Entry Do it Yourself Tips for Handicapped Access

Extending Widths of Doorways

This will enable a wheelchair to fit through the door with ease. There is a standard opening size for all different boroughs. Please telephone your local council for advice or speak to your Occupational Therapist. The width of a doorway is always at a minimum of 900cm clearance, it is possible to make the doorway wider.

Building of Concrete Ramp and Extending Doorway

The ramp will allow a wheelchair easy access up to the house and the extended door width will allow the wheelchair access with ease.

Remove Timber Threshold

To gain easy access from front/back door your builder will remove timber/concrete threshold and then extend the length of the door or may even renew it. Then a level concrete ramp will be constructed.

Concrete Ramp With Rail

This is the same as a concrete ramp except rails will be fitted along the sides. The rails should be galvanised to prevent rust.
