Home Improvement Advice for Loft Conversions

Do it Yourself Tips for Loft Conversions

Converting your loft is a simple way of creating more space in your home and is less stressful than moving properties. If you do eventually move home you will see the benefits as the value of your property will have been increased.

What Steps to Take

Firstly you need a survey done of your home to determine the potential of your loft space and what design would be best for the space you have. You will then need to contact an architect or surveyor to draw up plans for your conversion. The builder you choose can refer you to one or you can see our list of architects for help. The plans will then be drawn up and will have to be approved by the local council in which you live. Once you have planning permission you then need to find several builders who are able to give you a quote for all the works that are needed.

Please remember that the cheapest quote is not always the best quote.

How to Measure Your Loft Conversion

You will notice that when you are standing in your loft you are unable to stand up straight and walk the complete length or width of the room. We need to measure the area that you can stand up straight in and walk around.

We would suggest that you start at the furthest point you can stand up in and measure the width by taking large steps and repeat for the length. This will give you an approximate meterage measurement for us to price on. Please see the diagram below which will help your loft space.
