You will notice that when you are standing in your loft you are unable to stand up straight and walk the complete length or width of the room. We need to measure the area that you can stand up straight in and walk around.
We would suggest that you start at the furthest point you can stand up in and measure the width by taking large steps and repeat for the length. This will give you an approximate meterage measurement for us to price on.
N.B Take into consideration the existing flooring in your loft, you should walk only on the joists.
The floor structure is usually steel and timber beams supported by load bearing walls.
Dormer windows are designed for your individual property, maximising the space that you have. Velux windows can also be used but will not give the illusion of more space.
Loft conversions will add value to your house, you are adding extra living space to your home.
The existing central heating system should be capable of being extended into the new build / rooms. You will need to take advice on this from your CORGI installer, who can determin whether or not you would need to upgrade your system.
Check it has adequate ventilation.
Make sure you have chosen the right person to draw your plans, the plans need to be clear and accurate otherwise they can be misleading.
The (RIBA) Royal institute of British Architects only allow people to be members who are fully qualified to be called 'Architects'. They will be willing to give you a members contact number for an architect in your area. An Architect should be able to show you some examples of other plans he/she has drawn up.
When you have chosen an architect it is worth while discussing with him/her what their fee will include, such as the plans, planning and building regulation fees, any changes that will need to be made to the plans.
