Home Improvement Advice for Loft Conversions

Tips Do it Yourself Tips for Loft Conversions

Never walk anywhere in your loft other than on the joists (the large wooden beams that go across the floor) otherwise you are simply standing on the ceiling of the room below and you will fall through risking injury to yourself and damage to the room below.

If you have minimum head height of 2-3ft from ceiling joist to ridge then it is possible for you to have a loft conversion.

The floor that will replace the existing, will be made of steel and timber beams supported by the load bearing walls.

The stairs leading to your conversion are made individually to suit your property. Access for one house will not necessarily suit yours.

Your existing central heating system can be extended into the new build as long as the boiler is large enough. See our section on plumbing for more information.

Always ensure that your builder has fitted adequate ventilation.
